Circle of the Green was founded on Ostara 2003 by current Center Circle Priestesses Kelly Lyons-Schnupp and Lisa Barbero. Both Kelly and Lisa had over 15 years of experience in the practice and study of Goddess Religion and Paganism when they created the Circle.
Circle of the Green held their first public ritual for Northeast Council of W.I.C.C.A. the Mabon of 2003. The following year they performed their first closing ritual for Rochester Pagan Pride Day. To date they have performed closing ritual for RPPD every year since (2004-2008). They also performed a Samhain Celebration ritual for NEC of W.I.C.C.A. in 2004.
At Ostara 2004 the bylaws of the Circle were signed and further plans towards the organization of the Circle began to take shape.
In 2006 the first open portal for membership took place and the Circle significantly grew in number. Education programs were put into place and the number of Initiates has almost doubled since 2005.
In 2009 and 2010 Circle of the Green performed Opening Ritual for the Rochester Pagan Pride Day Festival. They have also hosted workshops at RPPD and Fingerlakes Pagan Pride Day.
Circle of the Green has perpetually attended rituals and other public events in support of the Greater Rochester Pagan Community since their inception.
The Circle strives to meet at least once a month and usually gets together 12 to 13 times a year minimum. In addition to regular rituals, there are frequent social gatherings, fun group activities, craft nights, and more. Many members have growing families and there are currently plans to create events and rituals for Pagan children.
Thanks to the dedication of its members, and a strong system of belief, Circle of the Green continues to evolve and grow.
